i'm fairly certain the president doesn't know what 'hola' means, and if he said it, it was probably an accident.
so, i spent the week in DC with my daddio. we saw the sites and i held my patriotic head high as i proudly meandered through the big things carved out of rock. i'm certain i shed a tear. or it rained. or it was incredibly humid, i promise one of those are true.
i like dc for a lot of reasons but here are some things that need changing:
1. why are there no good beers in the capital? the best thing they had was sierra nevada and that was about it. something else that tasted like an IPA mixed with lemonaide and gasoline. yum. let's work on this.
2. the only coffee they have comes from chain bistros; starbucks, caribou, whatever. DIVERSIFY, have something from the capital. we all know seattle doesn't grow coffee beans they just have a cute little mermaid that helps sell them at a ridiculously high price. let's sell some red, white and blue coffee beans and while we're at it, build some drive-thru sheds.
3. for representing america, washington d.c. certainly is missing quite a few of my favorite types of people: rednecks. no rodeos or mullets, not a single pregnant girl in a tight denim mini skirt and a bikini top. nothing, just a bunch of men and women in suits drinking starbucks. maybe they have rum in their coffee...it's a step in the right direction, but it's not quite howdy enough.
4. can't anyone water the lawn? there's a lot of lawn in dc. the white house is luscious green but the jefferson memorial, washington, lincoln, etc. all as brown as dirt, in addition, the reflecting pool is a misnomer. brown and stinky and filled with duck poop. when i think about the reflecting pool, i want to vomit. i'm not sure if that's supposed to inspire me or if it's supposed to make appreciate that i have the freedom not to live in dc.
things i like:
1. the metro is brilliant. it obviously wouldn't work here or probably anywhere else as well as it works in dc, but i love it and i'm thinking of moving to dc so that i may ride the metro all the live long day and maybe be somebody's wife or something.
2. i love where my sister lives, i love where kate lives, i love that we walked home from the bar last night and we could see the washington monument. pretty darn special. although, i don't think i would like walking to the metro in any weather that isn't sunshine and possibly rainbows that shower gumdrops and unicorns.
3. i want to be important. i want to make a difference and i think when i get back from peace corps, that's where i'll need to be and i'm excited about that.
at any rate, i had a great time with my sis was great and hanging with my cairo homies was awesome all of whom i haven't seen for two and a half years. hopefully i'll do better and they'll do better at keeping in touch but i love talking with them because they are so driven and interesting and diverse and east coast. they always inspire me to do more. anyway, i'm excited for peace corps and excited that maybe i'll be able to change something significant.
